How to backup and restore your website

Categories: Technical, Uncategorized

The free and easy option – JetBackup – Both Backup and Restore options.
Backups are done by Reclaim Hosting and available to you via the “JetBackup” cpanel menu widget under Files. Learn more JetBackup.
These backups are not included in your cpanel storage quota and are stored on a different platform for safe storage.
To restore a single file, all files, just the database, or full restore use the JetBackup selection in the cpanel.

Manually/scheduled backups from My Apps

For WordPress and other apps you install, you can:

  • Manually create backups from the My Apps link in the menu for the given CMS instance using the backup My Apps backup icon icon.
The backup wizard starts without any prompts, backing up the files, directories, and database tables associated with the application.
These backups are stored under your cpanel on the domains server and count against your storage quota.
  • Schedule backups from the My Apps link ‘view/edit details’ "My Apps" View/Edit details icon icon. You are limited to two backups per instance since space on our institutional site is limited. This option would be good to use if you were making rapid changes to your site every day during a given period, but don’t forget to turn it off.
These backups are stored under your cpanel on the domains server and count against your storage unless you specify a different storage location.

Off-Site manual backups – Most complicated option
From a terminal session using Linux commands you can tar/zip files and scp the resulting file to another host or your local computer.
